Accessibility Statement

This statement applies to content published on the benchmarking group websites managed by the Transport Strategy Centre at Imperial College London, including:

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader
  • Resize to the size of your window and display a readable text size whichever device you are using
  • Zoom in up to 500% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate and pause Sliders with a keyboard

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible the website is

Parts of this website are not fully accessible. For example:

  • the navigation menu is the sole way provided for page navigation
  • most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • interactive maps require multipoint gestures to pan the map

What we do about known issues

We work to achieve and maintain Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards, but it is not always possible for all our content to be accessible. Where content is not accessible, we will state a reason, warn users and offer alternatives.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Imperial College London is committed to making its website accessible in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the known issues listed below.

Non accessible content

The content that is not accessible is outlined below with details of:

  • where it fails the success criteria
  • planned dates for when issues will be fixed

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • the “News” section (if applicable) has informative images that do not have good alternative text. As such, users of assistive technologies may not have access to information conveyed in these images. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 – non-text context.
  • the “Library” or “Publications” section contains PDF documents that are not fully accessible to screen reader software. These include the absence or insufficient alternative descriptions for images and graphs. Non-HTML documents published on or after 23 September 2018 must have an accessible format.
  • the interactive map in the “Members” section requires multi-point gestures for the pan feature. This was added to improve the accessibility of the page when viewed on a mobile or tablet device. As there is not a single-point gesture alternative for panning the map, this fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.5.1 – point gestures.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Solutions to these non-compliance issues are being investigated and actively worked on. We will update this page when issues are fixed.

Some documents and content are exempt from the regulations (such as PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services), so we do not currently have any plans to make them accessible. But if you need to access information in one of these document types, you can contact us and ask for an alternative format.
